4th Season

Head Men’s Tennis Coach John P. Panzica, who also serves as the college’s Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services, has worked at CCRI since 1991. This year he enters his fourth year with the tennis program.

After qualifying and participating at the 2008 Men’s National Division III Tournament, the team looks to continue progressing this season. “The difference between our program the last couple of years and the top two or three programs in the country has been a matter of players. But every year in Division III Junior College tennis is completely different. This year we have a solid team top-to-bottom and those types of teams have been very successful on the national scene. This year we are looking to go to the National Tournament as a possible contender,” Panzica said.

Women's Tennis

Deborah A. Panzica (Scituate, RI) returns for her second year as Head Coach of the women’s tennis team. John P. Panzica, Deb’s husband, returns as Assistant Coach of the women’s tennis team. 2007 was the inaugural season of women’s tennis at CCRI.

Head Women’s Tennis Coach Deborah Panzica comes with a wealth of experience within the tennis realm. Deborah is currently a Board member of USA Tennis Rhode Island and USA Tennis New England. She served as President of USA Tennis Rhode Island for two years. Deb also serves as an NTRP (National Tennis Ratings Program) verifier for USA Tennis (USTA) and is a multiple-time New England Champion in singles and mixed doubles. In addition, she served as the Assistant Head Tennis Coach at Scituate high School from 2001-2002.

After qualifying and participating at the 2008 Women’s National Division III Tournament, the team looks to continue progressing. “Last year we took a group of 3 players to the National Tournament in Tucson, AZ. We were only able to roster 3 players so we were giving away three singles and two doubles positions right out of the gate. This year we look to expand the schedule, and the roster, and make it back to the Tournament and compete for a top-three spot.” says Panzica.

Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach John Panzica, the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services since 2003, has worked with CCRI since 1991.

The Knights Tennis Program will benefit greatly from the wealth of experience that John and Deborah Panzica will provide the CCRI women’s and men’s tennis teams with a wealth of tennis knowledge along with passion and enthusiasm as they look to move the CCRI tennis programs to regional and national prominence.
