About the Program
CCRI Softball 2006 Outlook
The 2006 CCRI women’s fast-pitch softball team has high expectations coming off their two best seasons in CCRI history winning The Region XXI Tournament in 2004 and having a 19-3 record in 2005. Head coach Bev Wiley and Assistant Coach Liz Afonso will mold a mix of eight experienced sophomores with 10 new freshmen.
Leading the sophomore class will be team Captains pitcher Jen Dupont (Lincoln, RI) and her battery-mate catcher Jenna Peters (Lincoln, RI). The battery of Dupont and Peters have played together for eight years and it shows in their chemistry and trust for each other on the field. They will be joined by left fielder and lead-off hitter Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) who will provide excellent fielding, a good bat and speed on the bases. Third baseman Christina Campopiano (Johnston, RI) another great bat in the line-up returns trying to build on her 2005 average of .429 and RBI total of 14 will provide an excellent glove at the "hot corner". Another returning sophomore who looks to get plenty of at-bats is 1B/DH Nicole Brierley (Lincoln, RI) who showed plenty of potential in her freshman year when she batted .400. The sophomore corps is rounded out by reserve pitcher Ashley Vachon (West Warwick, RI), a crafty lefty with great control, Missy Keeley a utility infielder with a good bat, and Bridget Bettencourt (Pawtucket, RI) a reserve outfielder.
The Knights also have a talented crop of freshmen led by center fielder Jasmine Bonanca (Swansea, MA), a standout form Case high school, who has an excellent approach at the plate along with being one of our best fielders. Alyse Fram (Lincoln, RI), an All-Stater from St. Raphael’s will provide some pop to the line-up and play first base. Heather Lynch (Warwick, RI) an outfielder and reserve catcher has shown that she has the tools to become a star at CCRI batting .700 in Florida on the Knights Spring Training trip including an inside the park homerun with a good glove and above average arm. Kara Serapiglia (Johnston, RI) has a good glove at Shortstop and will provide the Knights with some speed at the top of the order along with Laurie. Amy Lemmon (N. Attleboro, MA) will serve as the Knights #2 pitcher, behind Dupont, Amy hasn’t pitched competitively in four years and is working back into form as she develops she and Dupont will create an solid 1-2 punch. Other freshmen that look to contribute will be Mallery Andreozzi (East Providence, RI) a utility infielder, Amber Cerreto (Hope, RI), April Maccarone (Johnston, RI), and Lisa Quirk (North Providence, RI) will be outfield reserves.
