2010 SEASON OUTLOOK

The 2010 season will kick off on April 3 at the Jim Sheehan Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts. Coaches hope the men's team will place in the top six at the NJCAA Division III Northeast District Championship and in the top 11 at the NJCAA Division III National Championship. They also have high expectations for the women's team, projecting the squad will place in the top four at the NJCAA Division III Northeast District Championship and in the top seven at the NJCAA Division III National Championship.

On the men's side, a capable sprint team, which has potential to advance to nationals, will be led by second year runner and 2009 NJCAA national qualifier Blest Norris (Pawtucket, R.I.). Hammer, shot put and discus specialist Nathan Fetter (Warwick, R.I.) and javelin throwers Raymond Dormer (Warwick, R.I.) and Garrett Grenier (North Kingstown, R.I.) are expected to score at the districts.

On the women's team, strong throwers Ashley Noons (Rehoboth Mass.), Ashley Jones (Warwick, R.I.) and Sarah Brodeur (Westerly, R.I.) should advance to compete at the district and national championships. The sprint team, which will be led by Michelle Krol (Smithfield, R.I.), is taking shape with participation from Chelsey Sarachick (Warwick, R.I.), Tiphani Comena (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Kayleigh Smith (Cumberland, R.I.), the 2009 NJCAA national qualifier in the 400m dash. Running the middle-distance events will be Therese Kerin (East Greenwich, R.I.), Jaden Riendeau (East Providence, R.I.) and Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.). Riendeau and Kerin proved during the indoor season they can run qualifying times in the 800m and 1500m. They also have the ability to run competitive 5k races.
