Softball Spring Training 2018

Warwick, R.I. – March 12, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Cocoa Beach, FL to play their first games of the season in the Cocoa Beach Collegiate Spring Training Session. The games are being played at Chain of Lakes Softball Park in Titusville, FL. In their first game of the season the Lady Knights lost to the Titans of the County College of Morris from Randolph NJ 11-1. In their second game they fell to St. Louis Community College from St. Louis MO 12-0. With the two losses CCRI begins the season 0-2.

Game 1: CCRI - 1 CC Morris - 11 in five innings

In the circle for the Lady Knights in their season opener was Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI). Morgan pitched well versus a very potent Titan's line-up however it was the Lady Knights first game outside this year after practicing in the gym for months which led to early scoring opportunities for CC Morris. Morgan pitched four solid innings with tremendous poise though the game was not going the way she would have hoped. Though Morgan's pitching line was not indicative of how well she pitched it was still a very solid outing for the Lady Knights' Tri-Captain.

At the plate for the Lady Knights Freshman Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) led the game off with a single to right field but that was the only hit for the Lady Knights. CCRI did get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Tri-Captain Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood (Little Compton, RI) worked a walk followed by Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) who reached via error and she later scored on an error by the catcher. Unfortunately for the Lady Knights' bats could not get their bats going to support Morgan's effort in the circle.

Game 2: CCRI - 0 St. Louis CC - 12

In the circle for the Lady Knights in game two was freshman Sam Muller who threw four strong innings giving up four runs, only two runs were earned on five hits. Muller pitched very well against a very good and technically sound offensive squad from St. Louis. She was relieved by Hannah Caliri who pitched very well for the first two of her three innings in the circle but had a rough seventh as the temperature dipped which caused CCRI to play out of character as St. Louis pushed six runs across. Caliri did not pitch poorly but was a victim of circumstance as the game got away from the Lady Knights in the final frame.

Offensively for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Stevie-Rae Travers-Wood led the way going 3-3 with two singles, a double and a stolen base. Tri-Captain Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI)was 1-3 with a single and Hannah Caliri went 1-3 with a single. Rounding out the offense for CCRI was Tri-Captain Kailee Morgan went 1-3 with a single. The bats came alive a little bit in the second game but once again The Lady Knights could not string the hits together to score a few runs for their pitching staff.

The Lady Knights will be back in action Saturday at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, FL where they will face Itasca CC at 11am and St. Louis CC once again me at 1:30.
