Warwick, R.I. – March 22, 2018: The CCRI Baseball looked to get back to winning ways as they faced off with the Owls of Oakton Community College. Oakton came out fast and furious, taking a 5-0 lead that the Knights never successfully threatened. The Owls would go onto to beat the Knights 6-2. The loss puts CCRI's season record at 3-7.

CCRI – 2 Oakton – 6 (9 Innings)

The CCRI Knights came into the last game of their Florida trip looking to end on a good note. Oakton had similar ideas but executed them more successfully as they would start the game scoring two runs, three runs and one run in the first, second and third inning respectively.

CCRI's arms, a bit tired after nine games in six days showed signs of strain. John Hemond (Pawtucket, RI) pitched two and two thirds innings, allowing six earned runs off of seven hits. Hemond was relieved by Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI). McCann pitched four and one third scoreless innings allowing just four hits. Matt Gutelius (South Kingstown, RI) came in for the Knights, pitching the last inning of defensive action allowing just one hit.

CCRI's offense was led by Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) going 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Jacob Frost (Cranston, RI) also recorded a double as he went 1-2 on the day. Mike Castillo (Cranston, RI) chipped in, going 1-2 while adding a stolen base to his tally. In total, the Knights had eight hits in the game. Other knights to get the ball in play were Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI), David Mejia (Pawtucket, RI), Anthony Padilla (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) and Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) all recording one hit apiece.

The early push by Oakton was enough to secure the Owls the 6-2 victory over the Knights.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Baseball team will face Johnson and Wales University for a rescheduled early March match up on Tuesday March 20.
