Warwick, R.I. – February 7, 2018: the CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Charlestown, MA to play the Bulldogs from Bunker Hill Community College for a game on Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights defeated the Bulldogs 80-36. With the victory, the Lady Knights improve to 13-10 overall and 6-1 in Region XXI play.
The Lady Knights had already beaten the Bulldogs once earlier this season 74-23 on December 16th. CCRI knew that they just needed to remain focused and play their game they would emerge victorious. The Lady Knights led the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer. CCRI took a 20-4 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 25 points by halftime with the score 42-17. Form there CCRI never looked back outscoring BHCC 38-19 in the second half as well to win by the final count of 80-36.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) scoring a team-high 16 points including four 3-pointers with three steals and a two assists and sophomore D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) had 15 points including two 3-pointers with three rebounds. Also helping CCRI in victory was their other Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton Beach, FL) with 15 points with four assists and two steals and freshman Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) added 12 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. BHCC’s Leidy Pena-Guerrero led all scorers with a game-high 30 points.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be this Saturday at 12noon when they will host the Vikings of Westchester Community College from Valhalla, NY at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse.
