Warwick, R.I. – January 2, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team concluded play in the National Title IX Holiday Classic in Washington, DC on Saturday. The Lady Knights faced the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College from Virginia Beach, VA in their final game of the title IX Classic. CCRI fell to the Bobcats 69-60. With the loss the Lady Knights drop to 10-6 on the season.

The Lady Knights were playing their third game in three days and were up against another very potent team with an excellent frontcourt player in Shauntierra O’Guin who is ranked nationally by the NJCAA (DII): No. 4 in blocked shots with 4.0 per game, No.17 in FG% with 57.7% and No. 46 in Rebounds with 9.8 per game so they knew a victory would be a tall order. The Lady Knights got on the scoreboard first with a 3-pointer from Auvi Lindo (Pembroke Pines, FL) but the Bobcats would go on a 13-4 run to take a 13-7 lead in the quarter. CCRI battled back to close out the quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 14-13 lead at the end of the first. The Bobcats bounced back in the second quarter utilizing a balanced attack to pull ahead of CCRI 29-26 going into halftime.

In the third quarter both teams picked up the intensity on the offensive end. The Bobcats scored 19 points with 13 coming from their top two scorers: eight points from Tiara Williams and five from Shauntierra O’Guin. The Lady Knights also scored 19 points in the quarter with 10 coming from sophomore Nia Mims (Bethlehem, PA) on two 3-pointers and two 2-point baskets and D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) who added seven points. With just 10 minutes remaining both teams were separated by three points with CCRI looking for an opening but O’Guinhad other plans as she poured in 11 of her game-high 24 points in the final quarter to help the bobcats reach their highest quarterly output for the game with 21 points. The Lady Knights’ Nia Mims kept CCRI in the game scoring nine fourth quarter points but it would not be enough as Bryant & Stratton would pull away to win by the final score of 69-60.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was sophomore Nia Mims with a team-high 19 points including three 3-pointers, six rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
