Warwick, R.I. – October 24, 2016: The CCRI men’s cross country team returned to Franklin Park in Boston, MA on Saturday to compete in the Mayors Cup Franklin Park Open 5k Race. The Knights finished third out of 19 track clubs from all over New England with 59 points. The meet utilized a three person scoring format which is often used in open events.
What has been a common occurrence all season happened again in the Mayor’s Cup with CCRI Captain Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) leading the way for the Knights with an 19th place finish and a time of 17 minutes 51 seconds over the Franklin Park 5k course. Following Sankey was Mike Dutka (Chepachet, RI) who placed 28th in a time of 18:25. Rounding out the Knights’ scoring times was Danny Elliott (North Attleboro, MA) with a 31st place finish and 18:25 effort for the day. Two other Knights competed in the race. Bernardo Espinal (Johnston, RI) placed 113th in a time of 20:41 and Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, RI) placed 185th in a time of 23:19.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet: “This was different kind of meet for the guys running against local New England running clubs. They ran well and were exposed to a different type of completion.”
The next meet for the Knights will be the this weekend when they host the JUCO Northeast Invitational on the CCRI Cross Country Course located on the CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln, RI beginning at 10:00am.
