Warwick, R.I. – October 31, 2016: The CCRI Knights cross country team hosts the JUCO Northeast Invitational on the CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln. As a team the Knights finished second overall with 45 total points. The meet winner was Suffolk CC with 27 total points, in third place was Navy Prep with 59 total points and the fourth team was Springfield Tech with 113 total points!
Knights’ Captain Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) led the way for the Knights with a 2nd place finish in a time of 29 minutes 17 seconds. Following Sankey was Mike Dutka (Chepachet, RI) placed who seventh in a time of 30:32 immediately followed by Danny Elliott (North Attleboro, MA) followed in 8th with a time of 30:42. Finishing in the top 20 was Tim Chambers (Cranston, RI) who placed 13th in a time of 32:23 and Bernardo Espinal (Johnston, RI) placed 19th in a time of 33:34 while Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, RI) came in 28th in a time of 39:59.
The Knights have broken the top 10 in the National rankings and are currently ranked 7th in the NJCAA III poll. Suffolk, who also competed, is ranked 3rd in the same poll. Knights Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet “I think if with a good tapering down in training for the next 10 days things could work out fine for the Knights at the NJCAA III National meet.”
The Knights now gear up for the 2016 NJCAA DIII Cross Country National Championship Meet Saturday November 12th at Bruce Bridgman Cross Country Course in Canandaigua, NY.
