Warwick, RI November 14, 2016: The CCRI Knights cross country team traveled to Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY to compete in the Division III Cross Country National Championship. As a team the Knights finished eighth with 239 total points. The Team Champion was Harper Community College with 65 total points. This was one of the largest fields at the DIII Cross Country Nationals in recent years with over 33 schools represented, 25 complete teams and 189 runners.
Leading the way for the Knights was Captain Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) who finished 10th with an impressive time of 29 minutes 45.6 seconds over the hilly Finger Lakes CC course. For his efforts Sankey earned second team All-American honors For his outstanding effort.
Also running well for the Knights was Mike Dutka (Chepachet, RI) who finished 33rd in a fine time of 30:59.8. Danny Elliott (North Attleboro, MA), after getting boxed-out early in the race, was able to battle back to finish in 51st place. Tim Chambers (Cranston, RI) placed 90th in a time of 33:23.5. Bernardo Espinal (Johnston, RI) Also ran very well placing 96th in a time of 33:56.2. Rounding out the Knights' competitors was Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, RI) who finished 160th in a time of 39:56.6.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet "The team held their own and Kody Sankey left nothing behind in his effort to finish in the top 15!"
