Warwick, R.I. – June 17, 2017: The CCRI Knights golf team began play in the 2017 NJCAA Division III Golf National Championship hosted by Jamestown Community College at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY Tuesday morning. The Knights finished day 1 with a team score of 350 and are in 13th place as a team. The Leading team was Georgia Military College who shot a very impressive 300 and is in first place by 13 strokes over Columbus State Community College from Ohio who shot a 313 on the first day of play.
The Knights were led by Tri-Captain Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, RI) who shot a team low 81 and is tied for 38th individually followed by Aaron Bento (Seekonk, MA) who shot an 87 and is tied for 67th individually. Also helping the Knights was Tyler Boisclair (West Warwick, RI) who shot an 88 and is tied for 69th individually and Tri-Captain Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) shot a 94 and is tied for 85th individually. Also competing for the Knights at the championship was Tri-Captain Meghan Rocheleau (Warwick, RI) who shot a 119 but her score was not used towards the team total of 350.
The individual leader of the tournament is Mitchell Steiner from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College who shot the day 1 low score of 68 which was four under par followed by the defending individual champion Dante Migliore from Mohawk Valley Community College who shot a -2 70 on the first day of play. In third place is Ashton Denton of Georgia Military College who shot an even par 72.
The Knights will look to improve on their standing on the second day and will begin play at 9:40am with Aaron Bento and conclude with Tyler Boisclair at 10:12am.
