Warwick, R.I. – February 14, 2017: The CCRI Men’s Basketball team traveled to Boston, MA to take on Bunker Hill Community College on Monday night. The Bulldogs carried a 15-4 record into the game. The Knights were able to control the game from start to finish for their eighth straight victory! The victory brings the Knights to 17-8 overall and 9-1 in Region XXI Play.

The game started as a back and forth affair. Both teams were able to score quickly and often as the game tempo picked up. Bunker Hill jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead before Elijah Vazquez (Woonsocket, RI) sparked an 11-0 run for the Knights by hitting a 3-pointer. The run brought the Knights’ lead to 13-6 and they continued to build on it. By halftime, the Knights had built their lead to 14, with a score of 51-37.

At the start of the second half, the Bulldogs looked to cut the Knights’ lead down. They were able to cut the lead from 14 to 8. At this point, the Knights did not want it to get any closer and locked down defensively. After the lead was cut down to 53-45, the Knights only allowed 19 points the rest of the game. The defense was able to be turned into offense. The Knights gave up only 19 points while scoring 54. They were able to coast to their eighth straight win with a final score of 107-62.

The Knights had four players who contributed double-doubles on the night. Co-Captain Adrian La Fleur (Sydney, Australia) led the team in scoring with 19 points, while also having 11 assist. Edvaldo Ferreira (Praia, Cape Verde) scored 18 points on 8-9 shooting. He also had a great night on the boards with 11 rebounds. Kevin Paygai (West Warwick, RI) ran the offense, scoring 16 points and charting a career-high by assisting on 14 Knights’ baskets. Paygai earned his points by getting to the free throw line at will, making 10-12 free throws. Grant Gillis (Jamestown, RI) had a great night ripping down a career-high 18 rebounds while scoring 12 points.

The Knights will look to keep their winning streak going when they take on Gateway Community College on Saturday as a second part of a Men’s and Women’s double header. The Lady Knights play at 12noon and the Knights at 2:00pm. Come out and support your Knights at the One Last Shot event. There will be prizes and giveaways throughout both games!
