Warwick, R.I. – December 12, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued play in the Genesee Cougar Holiday Classic on Sunday and faced No. 18 ranked and undefeated (10-0) Thunderwolves of Niagara County CC. the Lady Knights lost to Niagara 80-46. With the loss CCRI falls to 7-7 on the season.
The Lady Knights knew they were in for a very tough contest versus the undefeated Thunderwolves even if they were at full strength but they were also playing without their starting center Dionna Jackson (Harriston, MS) who suffered an injury versus Genesee on Saturday. CCRI battled as best they could versus the very deep and talented Niagara County squad but were just overmatched. After one quarter the Thunderwolves led 22-14 and extended the lead to 41-27 by halftime. In the second half it was much of the same as Niagara outscored CCRI 25-12 in the third and 14-7 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 80-46 victory and remain undefeated at 12-0.
Leading the way for CCRI was Tri-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) who scored a game-high 18 points with four rebounds, three assists and a steal and Fantasia Semedo (Seekonk, MA) came off the bench to score seven points with four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Also helping CCRI was Tri-Captain Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT), Tiondra Hands (Delray Beach, FL) and D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) who had five points apiece.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 13th at 5pm when they will host another very tough opponent in the Wolverines of Essex County College to the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse.
