Warwick, R.I. – December 12, 2016: The CCRI indoor track teams traveled to Yale University in New Haven, CT to compete in the Yale University Season Opener which was a non-scoring meet.
For the Lady Knights freshman Allison Lenox (North Kingstown, RI) ran season bests in her two events, placing ninth in the 500m dash with a time of 1 minute 23.23 seconds. She then came back to place 46th in the 200m dash in the time of 28.85 seconds. Tara Miller (Wakefield, RI) also ran the 200m dash placing 59th in a time of 31:33 seconds.
For the Knights Justin Lucier (West Warwick, RI), Amir Spriggs (Providence, RI) and Wayne Rainey (Hope Valley, RI) all ran season-best times in the 200m dash. Lucier placed 23rd in the time of 23.60 seconds while Spriggs placed 31st in a time of 23.86 and Rainey placed 41st in a time of 24.72 seconds. Rainey also ran a season-best time in the 60m dash placing in 38th with the time of 7.72 seconds. Spriggs also ran the 60m dash placing 30th in the time of 7.50 seconds. Lucier also placed 14th in the 400m dash in a time of 52.85. Rounding out the Knights competitors was Mike Dutka (Chepachet, RI) in the Mile Run finishing in career-best time of 4 minutes 53.14 seconds placing him 15th in the event.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet “We had some season-best performances for the CCRI track team at the 2016 Yale University season Opener! Good to close out the first part of the season on a positive note.”
The CCRI indoor track team has a month off from competition and will begin the second part of the season on January 14th at the Roxbury Community College Tiger Open Meet.
