Warwick, R.I. – April 19, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Concord, NH to play the Lynx of New Hampshire Tech in a doubleheader. The Lady Knights were victorious in both games 4-2 and 9-1. With the victories the Lady Knights improve to 6-5 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI- 4 NHTI- 2
The Lady Knights scored three runs in the first before NHTI answered with two in the third inning. CCRI tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning to win by the final score of 4-2.
In the circle for the Lady Knights was their “Ace” Tri-Captain Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, RI) who once again pitched fantastically. Sheridan threw seven strong innings allowing two runs on four hits, walking four but striking out 12 Lynx batters. She now has 42 strikeouts in four games bringing her career strikeout total to 191 just 15 strikeouts from tying the All-Time Strikeout record of 206 set by Devin Azulay in 2012. With the victory Sheridan improves her pitching record to 3-1 on the season.
Offensively for the Lady Knights they were led by Tri-Captain Maddy Cooper (Pawtucket, RI) AKA “Tank” who launched a three run salvo in the first inning to score Tri-Captain Bella Malvinni (Westerly, RI) and freshman Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) to make the score 3-0 early. Cooper added another hit while Malvinni had two hits in the game with a stolen base and a run scored. Also helping CCRI was Stevie-Rae Travers (Little Compton, RI) and Danielle David with a hit and a run scored apiece while Travers added a stolen base. Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) and Courtney Sheridan rounded out the attack with a single and a double respectively.
Game 2: CCRI- 9 NHTI- 1
The second game of the doubleheader for the Lady Knights versus the Lynx was a much more decisive victory as CCRI scored two in the first and four in the third to take an early 6-0 lead. The Lady Knights added two more in the sixth threatening to end the game by the mercy rule but the Lynx answered with a run to extend the game. CCRI added one run in the seventh and held the Lynx scoreless to win by the final count of 9-1.
In the circle for the Lady Knights was freshman Danielle David who pitched very well throwing seven strong innings allowing just one unearned run on five hits, walking two and striking out five Lynx batters. With the victory David improves to 2-1 on the season.
Offensively the Lady Knights were led by Kailee Morgan with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and Tri-Captain Bella Malvinni who had a double a single and two runs scored. Also having a very good game was Danielle David who helped her own cause with three hits and three runs scored and Tori Hoard (Exeter, RI) with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Rounding out the CCRI onslaught was Tri-Captain Maddy Cooper with two hits and a stolen base and Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) with a triple and a run scored.
The Lady Knights have no time to rest with a doubleheader at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA Wednesday beginning at 3:30pm.
