Warwick, R.I. – April 10, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Huskies of Northeastern Club softball team to Winslow Park in Warwick for a doubleheader on Sunday. The Lady Knights were also holding their annual Coaches vs Cancer Pink Out where they wear pink uniforms, line the field as they raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.
In the circle for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, RI) allowing two runs, one earned on five hits, walking two and striking out 10 Northeastern batters. Sheridan was on her game. She kept the Northeastern bats in check the entire game and if her defense had been better she could have had a shutout. This was the second game in a row that saw her record 10 or more strikeouts as she earned her first victory of the season.
Offensively for the Lady Knights freshman Liz Bailey (Warwick, RI) with two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base and Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) led the way with two hits and RBI and a stolen base. Also helping her own cause was Courtney Sheridan with two hits and a run scored. Also Helping CCRI was Tri-Captain Maddy Cooper (Pawtucket, RI) with a hit and a run scored, Tri-Captain Bella Malvinni (Westerly, RI) with a hit, an RBI and a stolen base and freshman Tori Hoard (Exeter, RI0 added a hit and a run scored.
In the circle for the Lady Knights was freshman Danielle David who pitched magnificently allowing just one run on six hits, walking one and striking out three Northeastern batters. David cruised through the first four innings with a shutout and a 6-o lead before running into a little trouble in the fifth as two hits and a walk scored a run. But she quickly got back on track in the sixth and seventh to earn her first collegiate victory.
Offensively for the Lady Knights the exploded for five runs in the first inning and one in the second to take a quick 6-0 lead but then the offense stalled a bit but they had a comfortable lead and David was in complete control of the Northeastern offense as they went on to win 6-1.
Tri-Captain Bella Malvinni led the Lady Knights with three hits and two runs scored followed by Danielle David who had two hits including a triple, and RBI and a runs scored to help her own cause. Also helping CCRI was Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) with a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Tri-Captain Maddy Cooper had two hits and a run scored. Rounding out the CCRI offense was Liz Bailey with a hit an RBI and a run scored and Jordania Sobrado (Providence, RI) also added a hit and an RBI.
