Warwick, R.I. – April 20, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights traveled to Massasoit Community College for a Region XXI non-league doubleheader versus the Warriors. The Lady Knights defeated the Warriors 4-2 and 14-7. With the two victories CCRI improves to 8-5 on the season.
Coming into the doubleheader sophomore Tri-Captain Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, RI) was just 15 strikeouts from tying Devin Azulay’s 206 career strikeout record. Sheridan already owns the single game record with 16 and single season record with 148 both set during her freshman campaign. Sheridan came into relieve Kailee Morgan (Charlestown, RI) in the first game and threw two shutout innings striking out five Warriors’ batters. Courtney got the start in game two and by striking out Danielle Maloney in the sixth inning she became CCRI’s all-time career strikeout leader. Sheridan added two more in the seventh to give her 18 on the day and 209 for her career. She is the new CCRI career record with five regular season games and the postseason still to be played.

In the circle for the Lady Knights getting the start was Kailee Morgan who threw five shutout innings allowing no runs on three hits, walking one and striking out four Warriors’ batters to earn her second victory of the season. Morgan was relieved by Sheridan who threw two more scoreless innings walking one and striking out five to secure the CCRI shutout.
Offensively for CCRI Morgan led the way going 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to help her own cause and Tri-Captain Bella Malvinni (Westerly, RI) added three hits including a double with an RBI and a run scored. Also having a good game at the plate was Danielle David (West Greenwich, RI) had two hits with an RBI and a run scored, Tori Hoard (Exeter, RI) had a hit an RBI and two runs scored, Kaitlyn Campanelli (Lincoln, RI) added a hit, RBI and runs scored and Miranda Sasso (Smithfield, RI) added a hit.
Game 2: CCRI- 14 Massasoit- 7
In the circle for the Lady Knights was Courtney Sheridan who threw seven strong innings allowing just one earned run on four hits, walking one and striking out 13 batters to improve to 4-1 on the season. As mentioned before the 13 strikeouts gave her the CCRI career strikeouts record with 209! In addition to the record, Sheridan leads the nation with 12.25 strikeouts/seven innings (NJCAA DII stats) and is ranked No. 17 in the nations with an impressive 1.50 ERA.
At the plate for the Lady Knights they erupted for 14 runs on 19 hits led by Tri-Captain Maddy Cooper (Pawtucket, RI) with three hits including a 3-run Homerun, four total RBIs and three runs scored. Also having an excellent game at the plate was Danielle David with three hits including two doubles with 2 RBIs and three runs scored, Miranda Sasso also had three hits with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Tori Hoard added three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Tri-Captain Courtney Sheridan had two hits including a triple with three RBIs and a run scored to help her own cause and Jay Sobrado (Providence, RI) had two hits an RBI and a run scored.
The next games for the Lady Knights will be this weekend when they travel to Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY to play the Colts in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:00pm and for a single game Sunday at 11:00am.
