Warwick, R.I. – September 8, 2015: The No. 15 ranked (NJCAA DI poll) CCRI Lady Knights’ women’s soccer team hosted the Avengers of ASA College from New York, NY. The Lady Knights fell to the ASA Avengers 4-1. With the loss CCRI falls to 3-1 on the season.
This was only the first loss of the season for the Lady Knights. The Lady Knights were trailing just 1-0 at the half, but came out and got the equalizer just five minutes into the second half when sophomore midfielder Catherine Lopes (Warren, RI) lofted the ball high and out of the reach of ASA goalkeeper Stacey Gomez making the score 1-1. However, the Avengers stayed in attack mode throughout the half keeping the Lady Knights on their heels for most of the half. Midfielder Fabiana Miguel Reyes scored her second goal on the day returning the lead to ASA 2-1. The Avenger’s Carolina Morales would score two more goals in the half leading the Avengers to a 4-1 victory over the Lady Knights.
The Lady Knights next game will be this Wednesday when they travel to Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA at 4:00pm for a Region XXI non-league game.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
