Warwick, R.I. – September 8, 2015: The CCRI Knights Men’s Soccer team was on their home field Saturday as they took on the Avengers of ASA College. The Knights battled hard in the heat but did not come away with a victory. The Knights took the loss by the final score of 3-0, dropping the team’s record to 1-2 on the year.
As in previous games the Knights had chances to score but failed to capitalize on those chances. Versus ASA, the Knights had early opportunities in the beginning of the game including a couple chances by Jonathan Almeida (Pawtucket, RI) but could not convert them into goals. Every missed opportunity to score seemed to throw the Knights out of the game flow and started to become a fight to just stay even with the Avengers. Despite the hard work, the Knights went into halftime down one goal to none.
In the second half, Corey Chantre (Pawtucket, RI)and Michael Faria (West Warwick, RI) both made solid runs on the offensive end but could not muster up a goal. Chantre hit the post with one shot which could have cut the lead in half. The Avengers didn’t let the Knights get any closer to scoring after that and also added one more of their own to give the Knights a 3-0 loss.
Head Coach Gabe Toro said “I just want our players to focus on their job, do the small things because together those small things make a big difference in the final result.”
The Knights next game will be Wednesday September 9th when they host Region XXI rival Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA in their first regional conference game at the CCRI Soccer Complex in Lincoln.
