Warwick, R.I. – November 9, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued play in the Frederick Community College Tip-off Tourney on Sunday by facing the hosting Cougars of Fredrick. CCRI fell to the Cougars 70-66. With the loss the Lady Knights are now 1-2 on the season.
The Lady Knights fell behind early but closed out the first quarter with a nice run to take a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars rallied in second quarter with the home court advantage and took a 32-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Cougars extended their lead to as many as 10 points and ended the third quarter leading by eight with the score 53-44. In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights tried to mount a rally as they trailed by 12 points with the score 67-55. Freshman forward Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY) led the charge scoring 14 of her game-high 24 points in the final quarter but her efforts were not enough to get CCRI over the hump as the fell by the final count of 70-66.
Kennethah Harden led the Lady Knights with a monster double-double consisting of 24 points and 20 rebounds with three steals a blocked shot and an assist. Co-Captain Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) did her part adding 13 points with seven assists, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Also helping CCRI was Freshman Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) who scored 10 points with four rebounds and three assists while Briana Gerena (East Hartford, CT) added five points and tied for the team-high with seven assists.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday when they travel to Roxbury Crossing, MA to play the formidable Tigers of Roxbury, Community College for a Region XXI non-league game.
