Warwick, R.I. – November 16, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Dean College in Franklin, MA to play in the Dean Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday they face the Owls of Union County College from Cranford, NJ. The Lady Knights lost to the Owls 75-51. With the loss CCRI falls to 1-5 on the season.
The Lady Knights fell behind early to the Owls trailing 12-2 in the first quarter. CCRI was able to close out the half with an impressive 13-8 run to close the gap to five points 20-15 by the end of the quarter. In the second quarter union regained control of the lead and extended their lead to 15 points by halftime with the score 43-28. Union kept extending the lead in the second half to over 20 points. CCRI did outscore Union in the final quarter but never threatened the lead as they fell by the final count of 75-51.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY) who charted another double-double with a team-high 12 points while adding a team-high 13 rebounds. Harden was assisted by Co-Captain Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) who added nine points with three steals, three rebounds and two assist. Also helping CCRI was Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, NY) who scored seven points with four assists while Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) and Briana Gerena (East Hartford, CT) added seven points apiece with six from Maritza Gustave (Fall River, MA).
The Lady Knights will face The Naval Academy Preparatory School Sunday to complete their play in the Dean Invitational.
