Warwick, R.I. – November 9, 2015: The CCRI Knights Cross Country team competed in the NJCAA National Championship on Saturday which was held at Holyoke Community College in Westfield, MA. The five mile race was completed by 153 runners compete from over 30 different junior colleges.
The first Knight to cross the finish line was Jared Gruslin (North Smithfield), who placed 40th overall. Gruslin ran a career best time for an 8k by running the course in 30 minutes and two seconds.
Kody Sankey (Cumberland, RI) was not very far behind Gruslin, and finished in 42nd place. Sankey also ran a career best time by completing the course in 30:07.2. Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) ran a time of 32:28.6, as he was the third Knight to finish the course and Ian Fletcher (Lincoln, RI) ran a career best time of 37:10.2 to finish off the race for the Knights.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell Said this after the race “The guys ran hard today and it’s always a great feeling when runners have their best career times the last race of the season.”
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
