Warwick, R.I. – May 12, 2016: The CCRI Knights golf team hosted the Bayhawks of Bristol Community College and other Region XXI golfers to their home course at Cranston Country Club on Wednesday. The Knights handily defeated the Bayhawks with a team score of 343 while Bristol carded a 402. With the victory the Knights improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in Region XXI play.
Leading the way for CCRI was Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, RI) who shot a team-low 84 followed by Captain Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) who shot an 85. Also helping the Knights’ team score was Eric Carlos (Newport, RI) and Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, RI) who both shot an 87 for a team total of 343. Rounding out the CCRI participants were Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) who shot a 94 and Jackie French (Scituate, RI) shot a 122 but their scores did not go towards the team total. Bristol Community College was the only other complete team and there were golfers from Dean College and Springfield Tech but not enough to record a team score.
The next match for the Knights will be next Thursday and Friday May 19-20th when they travel to the Ranch Golf club in Southwick, MA to compete in the Region XXI Tournament.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
