Beausoleil and Harden Earn All-Region XXI Honors!

Haley Beausoleil

Warwick, R.I. – March 7, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team had an up and down year which ended in the Region XV/XXI Tournament to Monroe College in a very close 50-46 contest. However, the Lady Knights did receive some good news recently with two of their players earning 2016 All-Region XXI honors: Sophomore Captain Guard Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) and Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY). Head Coach Brittany Brown commented about her two selections: “I could not be more proud of these two!”

Sophomore Captain Haley Beausoleil came to CCRI from Plainfield High School in Connecticut where she was three-sport star in cross country, track and basketball. In her freshman and sophomore years at CCRI she was on the indoor and outdoor track teams where she still holds the Javelin record with a throw of 35.61 meters while also earning Third Team All-American honors at the 2015 NJCAA Track and Field Nationals. Halfway through her sophomore year she joined the Lady Knights’ basketball team and immediate impact as a hard-nosed defender and fearless attacker of the basket to go along with a long-range shooting touch. Instantly she was THE crowd favorite. No one played with more heart and intensity than Haley. Her, teammates could not help but increase their effort level as they see her play with tremendous speed, intensity and at sometimes with a lack of regard for her own well-being. As a freshman Beausoleil scored 98 points which was good for 7.4 points per game while also averaging over two assists and two steals per game including five games where she scored in double-figures. As a sophomore, through her natural leadership on and off the floor she was named Captain, a well-deserved honor. Haley always leads by example and NEVER takes a play off and while encouraging her teammates do the same. As a sophomore Haley averaged 9.1 points per game with 363 career points including 44 3-pointers including scoring in double-figures 11 times. She scored a season-high 20 points on two occasions in November in a victory over Orange County and December in a victory over Bunker Hill Community College.

Coach Brown added this about her Sophomore Captain “If I could have a player like Haley every year, coaching would be a lot easier. I never have to ask her to work hard. She is always going to give 110% every time she steps on the court. Haley getting All Region just solidifies her hard work and it shows it didn’t go unanswered.”

Freshman Kennethah Harden had one of the best seasons in CCRI Lady Knights’ basketball history. Harden charted 24 double-doubles in 31 games in her freshman campaign. Kennethah finished her historic freshman season with a single-season record 396 rebounds which obliterated the former record of 343 set in 2012-13 by Nyjah Porcher by a whopping 53 rebounds! In addition, she has scored 576 points which already ranks her No. 20 on the CCRI All-time scoring list. During her historic season Harden scored in double-figures in 29 of her 31 games including 11 games where she scored 20 or more and two games where she eclipsed the 30-point plateau. But it wasn’t just her scoring that the Lady Knights counted on as she rebounded in double-figures in 26 of 31 games including seven games of 15 rebounds or more and three games with 20 or more rebounds. Harden’s best game came versus Gateway Community College when she posted career-highs with 37 points and 24 rebounds in a game where she dropped 18 in the third quarter alone.

Coach Brown added about her talented freshman: “Kennethah has blossom into a true basketball player. She is a totally different player from beginning of the season than from the end of the season. She works hard and grinds it out. She is more than deserving of this All-Region honor.”
