Warwick, R.I. – April 25, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team host the Knights of Northern Essex Community College for a doubleheader on Friday. The Lady Knights of CCRI swept the Knights of Northern Essex 6-1 and 4-2. With the two victories CCRI improves to 14-8 on the season. In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game was their ace Courtney Sheridan (Warwick, RI) who was stellar throwing seven strong innings allowing just on earned run on six hits, walking one and striking out five Northern Essex batters to notch her seventh victory of the year.
The only blemish for Sheridan came in the second when Kiana Guadalupe tripled to right field and scored on a throwing error. Besides that she held their potent line-up in check throughout the entire game.
Offensively for CCRI Meghan Rousseau (Richmond, RI) reach base three times with an RBI and a run scored while Tri-Captain Erica Jewett (Coventry, RI) had two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Also helping the Lady Knights was Bella Malvinni (Westerly, RI) with a 2-RBI single a run scored and a stolen base while Tri-Captain Jess Spargo (Westerly, RI) added two hits including a double with an RBI and run scored. Rounding out the CCRI attack was Sam Archambault (north Smithfield, RI), Maddy Cooper (Pawtucket, RI) and Jenna Beauchamp (Warwick, RI) with a hit apiece.
In the circle getting the start for the Lady Knights was Bella Malvinni who threw 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts but she did not factor in the decision. Courtney Sheridan relieved in the Malvinni second inning and threw 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball allowing just two hits, walking two and striking out five Northern Essex batters to earn her eighth victory of the year.
Offensively for CCRI they were led again by Meghan Rousseau who had two hits including a triple with a run scored and Jenna Beauchamp added two hits and two runs scored. Also helping the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Jess Spargo with a double and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2 and Kim Barker (Narragansett, RI) singled to right field to score the game winning run which as pitcher Courtney Sheridan who also added a hit. Mikayla Fernandez (Burrillville, RI) and Bella Malvinni each added a hit as well for CCRI.
The Lady Knights have Saturday off before hosting Dean College for a doubleheader Sunday at 1:00pm.
