It was the final currently scheduled game for the CCRI the Lady Knights and they celebrated with their fifth annual Pink Out and Sophomore Day. As part of the Lady Knights’ Pink Out celebration they have begun collecting a donations for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation, they have already collected nearly $500 and will continue collecting donations through the end of the month so if you see a Lady Knight player with a pink jack-o-lantern feel free to support their efforts to help this worthy cause. In addition to the Pink Out it was also Sophomore Day for their five sophomores: Co-Captain Lauren Cattani (Cranston, RI), Co-Captain Stepheny Perez (Providence, RI), Carla Porras (Narragansett, RI), Ashley LeClair (Westerly, RI) and Selena Canales (Cranston, RI).
Sophomore forward Ashley LeClair made the most of Sophomore Day by scoring all four goals in the CCRI 4-0 victory over Bunker Hill CC. She scored her first goal with a header in the 8th minute of play assisted by freshman forward Anete Encarnacao (Pawtucket, RI) who made a nice cross into the BHCC six yard box and LeClair headed the ball into the net. Then in the 34th minute on a very similar play, LeClair scored her second goal as she headed the ball into the BHCC net again after receiving a beautiful cross from freshman midfielder Kendra Levesque (Warwick, RI) giving the Lady Knights a 2-0 lead at the half.
LeClair was at it again just three minutes into the second half as Levesque connected again with another nice cross that Ashley was able to get a foot on giving CCRI a commanding 3-0 lead and give LeClair her first career hat trick. She was not done there either, with fifteen minutes left in the match freshman forward Kyanna Ivey-Jones (Pawtucket, RI) took the ball deep into the Bunker Hill zone in the corner and crossed the ball in to the goal mouth where LeClair banged in her fourth goal of the match.
Head Coach Dennis Grassini commented after the match, “We had numerous scoring opportunities all day long and Ashley (LeClair) was certainly on her game today scoring all four goals. She was hungry and it certainly showed! We will now prepare for our next match with Dean College on Thursday where we hope to capture the Region XXI title.”
The Lady Knights travel to Franklin, MA on Thursday at 3:30 pm to play the Region XXI rival Bulldogs of Dean College for their final Region XXI contest of the year.
