The CCRI Lady Knights’ volleyball team hosted the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College and No. 13 ranked (NJCAA DI volleyball poll) Mustangs of Monroe College for their annual Dig Pink Invitational this past Saturday at the CCRI Fieldhouse in Lincoln. In addition to it being the Dig Pink Invitational it was also Sophomore Day for their two Co-Captains: Lindsey Proulx (Warwick, RI) and Delyn Pizzaro (Homestead, FL) who were playing in their final home matches as Lady Knights. CCRI defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in the first match but fell to the high-powered Mustangs in their second match 0-3. With the split the Lady Knights’ record is now 6-19 overall but 2-0 in Region XXI play.
Lady Knights walked out on the court ready to play. This was the last home game for our sophomores and they were determined to win. The Bunker Hill Bulldogs were able to have the momentum swing their way in the third game, however the Lady Knights quickly took that back to finish out the match 3-1.
Co-Captain Delyn Pizzaro finished the match with 12 kills and four blocks while Hannah Derefaka (West Warwick, RI) had nine kills and four blocks. Co-Captain Lindsey Proulx had eight kills, and Ormarie Colon (Providence, RI) had 23 serves with two aces. Rounding out the CCRI top performers was Emily Taylor (South Kingstown, RI) who had 34 assists and 16 serves including two aces and Kayleigh Clauson (Wakefield, RI) finished with 21 digs.
The Lady Knight's knew that this match was going to be a challenge and met it head on. The Lady Knight's walked on the court with fire in their eyes and made Monroe work for every point in the first two games. Unfortunately, they could not hold onto that fire in the third game and the Lady Knights quickly fell apart eventually losing the match 0-3.
Delyn Pizzaro finished the match with eight serves including an ace and five kills. Emily Taylor had nine serves including two aces, seven assists and 13 digs while Kayleigh Clauson had 10 digs. Overall the Lady Knight had a successful Dig Pink Tournament. They ended the day with 50 Kills, nine Blocks, 129 Digs, and 125 serves including 10 Aces.
