The CCRI Athletics Sports Information Department has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past year with the addition of Assistant Sports Information Coordinator Matt Metcalf. Unfortunately for CCRI, Metcalf’s success has led him to a bigger and better position at Beacon Communications as the Assistant Sports Editor.
Metcalf came to CCRI after graduating from Assumption College with a degree in Political Science where he was also a member of the Greyhounds baseball team as a Pitcher. Before that, he pitched for the Bishop Hendricken Hawks right here in Warwick. In addition to his athletic background as a player, he also worked in multiple media positions including being a sports writer for teams like the Worcester Sharks, the Tampa Bay Lightning and papers such as the Worcester Telegram and the Warwick Beacon where he has been promoted to Assistant Sports Editor.
At CCRI, he worked side by side with Sports Information Coordinator Dan LaCorbiniere and served as a Content Manager for the athletics web site, wrote stories for various teams, and was involved in other marketing and promotions within the Department of Athletics. LaCorbiniere commented on his Assistant “Matt has been a pleasure to work with and a valued asset to the Department of Athletics and my area in particular. He is always there to lend a helping hand as well as step-up when we needed help with any project. His passion and enthusiasm towards athletics is infectious and it showed every day. He will surely be missed but I am glad that he is going to a media outlet that we already work closely with. I wish Matt the best of luck in his new venture at Beacon Communications and in the future, he will surely be missed.”
Metcalf’s Last day at CCRI will be Friday the 7th before starting at the Beacon on Monday, November 10th.
