The Knights had a season-high four runners compete in the Boston Mayors Cup, held at Franklin Park in Boston on Sunday morning. CCRI competed in the 5k race amongst various NCAA and club teams and were extremely competitive.
Ian Anderson (Warwick, RI) led the way for the Knights, finishing 51st out of 257 runners with a time of 19 minutes 10 seconds. Jared Gruslin (North Smithfield, RI) finished second for the Knights, placing 68th in a time of 19:50. Sophomore Joe Gareri (Uxbridge, MA) placed third for the Knights and 93rd overall in a time of 20:48. Lee Mandanici (Medina, OH), running in his first ever cross country race, finished a solid 115th of 257 in a time of 21:37.
The Knights will now prepare for the CCRI Northeast Invitational, which they will host at the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln. The event will begin on Saturday morning with the men’s race at 10am, followed by the women’s race at 11am.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
