Warwick, R.I. – November 26, 2014: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Middletown, NY to play the Colts of Orange County Community College of Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights lost to the Colts 62-56. With the loss the Lady Knights' record drops to 2-5 on the season.
Both teams struggled to find offense in the first half but the game was very close as the teams went into halftime with the score 23-20 with the Colts holding a slim three point lead. In the second half both teams began to open up their offenses which led to more scoring and a more wide open game. The Lady Knights kept the game close but could not pull off the comeback victory as the Orange County once again outscored them by three points in the second half 39-36 to win by the final score of 62-56.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) who scored a game-high 24 points including three 3-pointers with two blocked shots, two assists, and a steal. Artis was helped by sophomore Tri-Captain Jesse Ossian (Chandler, AZ) who scored 10 points with five, assists, five rebounds and three steals and Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA) who had 10 points with six rebounds, two steals and two assists while Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Albany, NY) added nine points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday December 2nd at 6pm when they will host the Lions of Gateway Community College from New Haven, CT for a Region XXI non-league game.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England's largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
