Warwick, R.I. – November 17, 2014: The CCRI Lady Knights women's basketball team traveled to Frederick, MD to compete I the Frederick Community College Best Western Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday they faced the hosting Cougars of Frederick CC. The Lady Knights fell to the Cougars 96-67. With the loss the Lady Knights' record drops t2 2-2 on the season.
The Lady Knights had a rough first game at the Best Western Invite as the hosing Cougars took control of the game early and never looked back. Frederick took a 53-26 lead into halftime. In the second half the Lady Knights and Cougars played more evenly but CCRI was unable to cut too far into the Cougar lead as Frederick cruised to the 96-67 victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was sophomore Tri-Captain Jesse Ossian (Chandler, AZ) scoring a team-high 22 points with six rebounds, three steals and an assist followed by sophomore Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA) who added a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to go with a team-high four assists. Also scoring in double-figures for CCRI was Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Watervliet, NY) with 11 points and seven rebounds with two steals, a blocked shot and an assist while freshmen Anna McDaniel (Taunton, MA) and Yesenia Biascochea (Central Falls, RI) each added six points apiece.
The Lady Knights have no time to rest as they will face-off against No. 11 ranked (NJCAA DII pre-season poll) Skipjacks of Chesapeake College Sunday at 1pm to conclude their play in the Best Western Invite.
