Warwick, R.I.– May 12, 2015: The CCRI coed tennis team traveled to Collin College in Plano, TX to compete in the Division III Tennis National Championship.
On the first day of competition the second doubles team of Max Mendoza (West Warwick, RI) and Sam Perry (North Smithfield, RI) defeated the team of Carlos L. Pena-Alicea and Mark Rich of Onondaga Community College 7-5 and 6-4.
Perry and Mendoza in the quarterfinals to advance to the National Semifinals where they will meet the top seeded team of Kevin Lankowicz and Erik Ujvari of Suffolk County College at 1pm (Central Time). Also advancing to the quarterfinal was the CCRI No. 1 doubles team of Troy Derrick (East Providence, RI) and Justin Allen (Warwick, RI) who had a bye in the quarterfinal and will also play Tuesday in the National Semifinals at 1pm vs. Sebastian Alvarez and Andrew Reiley of Suffolk County College.
The rest of the CCRI results came in singles with No. 1 singles Troy Derrick falling to Conner Prasad of Brookdale 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. No 2 singles Justin Allen fell to Leonny Duarte of Ocean County 7-5, 4-6 and 6-1. No. 3 singles Sam Perry fell to No 1 seed Ian Lu 6-0 and 6-0. No. 4 singles Max Mendoza fell to Jason LaVoie of Ocean County 6-0 and 6-0. No. 5 singles Jacquelyn French (Scituate, RI) fell to Troy Osborne of SUNY-Delhi 6-2 and 6-0.
