Warwick, R.I. – February 16, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights' basketball team traveled to Newport, RI on Saturday to play the Rams of the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS). The Lady Knights lost to NAPS 55-48. With the loss CCRI's record drops to 6-16 on the season.
Navy Prep jumped ahead of the Lady Knights to begin the game with an 8-0 run. NAPS held the lead for most of the half until CCRI battled back to score the final six points of the half to tie the game 21-21 at the break.
The Lady Knights began the second half playing very tough as they took the lead 28-27 on a basket from Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA). From there NAPS went on a 16-5 run to take a 10-point lead 43-33. CCRI didn't quit and battled back to close the lead to just four points 49-45 after a pair of made free throws from Lyric Artis (Albany, NY). But that is as close as CCRI would get as Navy Prep held on to the slim lead to win by the final score of 55-48.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Amber Edwards with 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot and Lyric Artis with 12 points seven rebounds and a blocked shot. Also helping CCRI was Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Albany, NY) who just missed a double-double with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds and Jennifer Cicero (West Greenwich, RI) who added nine points with five rebounds and two assists.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be this Wednesday the 18th when they will travel to Franklin, MA to play Dean College at 8:00pm for an important Region XXI showdown as part of a doubleheader with the Knights who will play Dean at 6:00pm.
