Warwick, R.I. – December 22, 2014: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team travelled to New Rochelle, NY to compete in the Monroe College Winter Tip-off Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday in their first game CCRI faced the Cougars of Frederick Community College form Frederick, MD. The Lady Knights lost to the Cougars 73-60. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 4-9 on the season.
This was the second meeting this year for the Lady Knights and Cougars with Frederick winning the first foray at Frederick 96-67. This game would be much closer in New Rochelle. Both teams battled closely in the first half with the Cougars taking a slim 27-31 lead into the break. In the second half the Lady Knights started well and took the lead 32-31 on a shot form Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA). The teams traded the lead for the next few minutes until Frederick went on a 12-0 scoring run to take a 10 point lead to which the Lady Knights did not recover as the Cougars would hold onto the lead and win by the final count on 73-60.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) with 19 points followed by Tri-Captain Jesse Ossian (Chandler, AZ) who had a double-double with 13 points, including two 3-pointers with 11 rebounds while adding four assists and three steals. Also helping CCRI was Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Albany, NY) with 14 points, nine rebounds and a blocked shot while Tri-Captain Amber Edwards added eight points, eight rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Knights will face the Mustangs of Monroe College Sunday at 2pm in their final game of the Monroe Winter Tip-off Invitational.
