Warwick, R.I. – December 15, 2014: the CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued play in the Genesee Community College Cougar Holiday Classic on Sunday morning in Batavia, NY by playing the hosting Cougars of Genesee CC. The Lady Knights lost a close battle with the Cougars 67-59. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 3-8 on the season.
The Lady Knights and Cougars battled back and forth in the first half. First CCRI jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead on a basket from Tri-Captain Amber Edwards (Boston, MA). Genesee battled back to tie the score 16-16 on two free throws from Breanna Gleaton. Genesee surged ahead of CCRI 25-18 but the Lady Knights battled back to tie the score at 27-27 and 29-29 before going into halftime trailing 33-30. The Lady Knights played hard in the second half but Genesee was able to extend their lead to 10 points and held on to win by the final score of 67-59.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Jesse Ossian (Chandler, AZ) with a double-double that included 18 points and 10 rebounds while adding five assists and a steal and Tri-Captain LaShana Tolliver (Albany, NY) added 16 points and nine rebounds while blocking two shots. Also helping CCRI was Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot and Tri-Captain Amber Edwards added 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be this Wednesday December 17th at 6pm when they will host the Seawolves of Southern Maine Community College.
