Warwick, R.I. – April 9, 2015: The CCRI Knights Baseball team hosted the Mitchell College JV team on Wednesday for the Knights second home game of the season. The Knights bats were hot and they clubbed out 16 hits in the 13-6 victory over the mariners. The win puts the Knights back over .500 on the year at 6-5.
CCRI was aggressive at the plate and on the bases being able to slug out 16 hits and stealing four bases. The Knights did a great job of being able to move runners on the bases and knocking in runs as ten different players had at least one RBI. Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) had a big day by going two for three from the plate, driving in three runs, scoring once, and stealing two bases. Dave Hopkins (East Greenwich, RI) also had a big day by scoring three times, recording two hits and having one RBI and one stolen base. Stephen Adams (Jacksonville, FL), James Riley-Garnett (Newport, RI) and Brandon Escalante (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) all recorded two hits and one RBI a piece. Mike Evans (Warwick, RI) and Casey Mack (Trumbull, CT) both chipped in with a hit and a RBI apiece. Colby Ortega (Kissimmee, FL) also chipped in with one hit and two RBI’s, pinch hitting for Barry in the seventh.
Wally Luna (Providence, RI) started for the Knights and had a quality start to pick up the victory. Luna went five innings giving up only two earned runs and striking out seven. Heiker Feliz (Providence, RI) once again pitched well for the Knights pitching a clean ninth without giving up a run, hit or base runner.
The Knights now stand at 6-5 on the year and will look to improve their record when they play Mercyhurst Northeast on Saturday April 11th in a doubleheader at 12noon, then once more again on Sunday April 12th at 12noon.
