Warwick, R.I. – April 27, 2015: The CCRI Knights track team traveled to Weston, MA on Saturday to compete in the Regis Pride Classic. The Knights had an excellent showing and were able to place in the top ten of five different events.
Connor Williamson (West Warwick, RI) led the way for the Knights placing fourth in the long jump with a best jump of 6m (19.6ft) and also placing fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.14 seconds. Javier Vazquez (Providence, RI) had a solid day by placing fifth in the high jump with his best leap of 1.8 m (5.9ft).
Britton Laney (Pascoag, RI) and Lee Mandanici (Medina, OH) both had great days running for the Knights. Laney placed ninth in the 800m run with a career-best time of 2:05:64. Mandanici was able to place eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 53.62.
The Knights will send four athletes to Mohawk Valley Community College in upstate New York next weekend to compete in the NJCAA Division III National Championships. Williamson will be competing in two events, the long jump and 110m hurdles. Laney will be competing in the 800m, and Mandanici will run the 400m and also the 200m. Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT), the lone Lady Knight on the CCRI track team, will run in the 400m dash, the 200m dash and she will also throw the javelin.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
