Knights Dominate 23-2 in Win over Navy Prep!

Warwick, R.I. – April 29, 2015: The CCRI Knights baseball team welcomed interstate opponent Navy Prep (Newport, RI) to Fell Field in Warwick on Tuesday in the Knights second to last home game of the year. The Knights had a hit party waiting for the visitors though and the Knights rolled to a victory by the score of 23-2. The win put the Knights at 15-12 on the year.

James Riley-Garnett (Newport, RI) pitched well for the Knights despite giving up two runs in the first inning. Riley-Garnett settled down after that and struck out eight batters on his way to a complete game five-inning performance.

The two runs scored by Navy Prep in the top of the first inning were answered by 11 runs in the bottom of the inning by the Knights. That was just the beginning though as they scored one in the second, seven in the third and four in fourth on their way to 23 runs over four innings of batting.

Co-Captain TJ Boyajian (Warwick, RI) went four for four at the plate on the day adding three runs scored and five RBI’s from the top of the order. Another Warwick, RI native, Ryan Rotondo (Warwick, RI) went three for three on the day also scoring three runs and knocking in five RBI’s. Dave Hopkins (East Greenwich, RI), Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI), Dan Autiello (Orlando, FL) and Mike Evans (Warwick, RI) all added one RBI a piece on the day. Co-Captain Eddie Apice (North Kingstown, RI) had two hits, scored twice and knocked in two runs on the day while catcher turned outfielder for the day, Edinson Mercado (Providence, RI) , scored four times.

The Knights play their final regular season home game on Wednesday against the Franklin Pierce Club team at 4pm. CCRI will look to keep the bats hot before they face Region XXI rival UConn Avery-Point on Saturday in a vital doubleheader.
