The CCRI Lady Knights’ women’s soccer team hosted the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College from Syracuse, NY on Sunday. The Lady Knights defeated the Bobcats 6-2. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 8-6-1 on the season.
It did not take long for CCRI to get on the scoreboard, right after the opening kickoff they put the ball deep in the Bobcats’ end of the field that was deflected out of bounds for a quick corner kick. Freshman midfielder Stepheny Perez (Providence, RI) played a beautiful kick and freshman midfielder Carla Porras (Narragansett, RI) headed the ball into the corner of the goal just 33 seconds into the match giving CCRI a very quick 1-0 lead. This quick goal would set the tone for the rest of the match. Less than five minutes later sophomore Tri-Captain Paige Oram (Burrillville, RI) scored an unassisted goal off of a rebound giving the Lady Knights a very fast 2-0 advantage. CCRI continued to dominate the match but just couldn’t seem to convert. Bryant and Stratton’s goalkeeper Sophia Dimkos made save after save as the Lady Knights peppered her with many shots throughout the half. With less than five minutes remaining in the half Oram tallied her second goal of the match after receiving a nice pass from Perez giving CCRI a commanding 3-0 lead at the halftime break.
As the second half began CCRI continued to dominate until Bobcat forward Kai Jacobs utilized her superior speed to get behind the CCRI defenders on a fast break to score a goal making the score 3-1 CCRI. But this was Paige Oram’s day as 10 minutes later she scored an unassisted goal on a header giving the Lady Knights a 4-1 advantage. And after another 10 minute stretch Oram scored yet another unassisted goal, her fourth of the game giving the Lady Knights a commanding 5-1 lead. However, the Bobcats would not give up as their mercurial forward Kai Jacobs once again got in for her second breakaway goal the match reducing CCRI’s lead to 5-2. With under three minutes to play sophomore Missy Richards (Coventry, RI) scored on a goalmouth scramble on a ball played in by Porras which made the final score 6-2 CCRI.
Leading the way for CCRI was Tri-Captain Paige Oram who scored four goals on the afternoon, three of them unassisted on some great individual efforts. Carla Porras recorded goal and an assist while Stepheny Perez recorded two assists on the afternoon. The Lady Knights recorded 31 shots on goal and generated 15 corner kicks and the only thing keeping the game from being a blowout was the play of the Bobcats’ goalkeeper Sophia Dimkos , who made 25 saves, as the Lady Knights completely dominated the game.
