The second of the two CCRI Track & Field participants at the 2014 NJCAA Division I Track & Field National Championships at Mesa Community College in Mesa AZ competed on Friday. Shenelle Teixeira (Barrington, RI) competed in the 400m hurdles.
Teixeira placed 26th at the Championships with a solid effort of 1 minute8.10 seconds. CCRI Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet “Both Shenelle Teixeira and Haley Beausoleil, who placed 14th in the Javelin throw on Thursday, put forth consistent performances like they had all season long. Haley and Shenelle are only freshmen and walked away from their national meet experience with big goals for their 2014-2015 track and field seasons. Both ladies represented the Community College of Rhode Island with great sportsmanship. I look forward to having a chance to coach them once again next year.”
Winning the NJCAA Division I National Championship for both the men and the women was South Plains College from Levelland, TX who scored 162 points in the women’s events and 148 points in the men’s events.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
