Lady Knights lose two to Monroe College
The CCRI Lady Knights’ softball team traveled to New Rochelle, NY to play the Mustangs of Monroe College for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Lady Knights lost to the Mustangs 6-0 and 9-4. With the two losses the Lady Knights begin the season 0-8.

On the mound for the Lady Knights sophomore Macayla Paiva (West Greenwich, RI) got the start and throw six strong innings allowing six runs, five earned on nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Paiva pitched good but got no runs to support her effort on the mound.
Offensively for the Lady Knights Co-Captain Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) led the way with two hits going 2-3 on the day. The only other CCRI player to garner a hot was Freshman Taylor Butler (North Kingstown, RI) who got on base twice with a hit, going 1-2 while adding a walk.

On the mound for the Lady Knights Taylor Butler got the start and threw six solid innings allowing nine runs, but only five of them were earned on eight hits with six walks and six strikeouts. Butler was cruising along with a 4-3 the lead until the fourth inning when she got into trouble and gave up five runs allowing Monroe to take an 8-4 lead. Monroe tacked on one more I the fifth inning to make the final score 9-4.
Offensively for the Lady Knights they started well scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Co-Captain Alex Place led of with a single, followed by Taylor Butler who grounded out, Co-Captain Liz Coburn (Chepachet, RI) was then hit by a pitch that eventually sent her out of the game in the second inning. Freshman Ashley Spear (Harrisville, RI) followed with an RBI single followed by an RBI single from Sophomore Sarah Deal, who later scored on an error making the score 4-0 CCRI. However, that is all the Offense the Lady Knights would put on the scoreboard as Monroe would chip away scoring two runs in the first, one in the second, five in the troublesome fourth and one in the firth to lose by the final of 9-4. The CCRI offensive attack was led by Taylor Butler who had two hits while Ashley Spear, Alex Place, Sarah Deal, and Alexis Jendzejec (West Greenwich, RI) all added one hit in the game.
The next games for the Lady Knights will be this Thursday when they will host the regional rival Bulldogs of Dean College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm at Winslow Park Field 1 in Apponaug.
