Knights surge into 11th on final day of Golf National!

The CCRI golf team concluded play in the Division III NJCAA golf National Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY. The Knights shot their best team round on the final day of the Championship with a team total of 352, 14 strokes better than their first day score of 366 to give them a four-day total of 1,471. The 1,471 placed them 11th after being in 13th place for the first three days. Winning the Team Championship was Sandhills Community College from Pinehurst, NC shooting a 290 as a team on the final day to give them a four-day total of 1,197 to beat Cincinnati State Technical Community College (1,212) by 15 strokes. Individually, the low score of the Championship was turned in by Nick Thompson from Sandhills CC with a four day total of 285 (-3) besting Alec Meyer of the College of DuPage who had a four-day total of 287 (-1).

The Knights had their best overall team day shooting a 352 led by Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) who shot a 78 on the final day to give him a four-day total of 316 to place him tied for 25th the best finish for a CCRI golfer at the Championship in recent history. Letterle was followed by Co-Captain Gina Bartolotta (Wakefield, RI) who shot an 88 for a four-day total of 355 to place her 72nd overall individually. Co-Captain Zach Sullivan (Cumberland, RI) shot his best round of the Championship with an 89 to give him a four-day total of 393 to place him 75th. Rounding out the Knights foursome was Chris Lussier (Cranston, RI) who also shot his best round of the Championship with a 97 to give him a four-day total of 407 and placing him 76th.

The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
