10.14.12: The No. 13 ranked (NSCAA poll 10/9/12) Lady Knights’ soccer team wrapped up their weekend trip by traveling to Newton NJ to play the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College. The Lady Knights dominated the Skylanders 9-0. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 8-3-2 on the season.
CCRI dominated the game right from the opening kickoff but still had trouble putting the ball in the net until the 20th minute of play when sophomore Co-Captain Cait McGarry (Warwick, RI) scored on a direct free kick from approximately 18 yards out from the Sussex goal. With the ice finally broken the Lady Knights continued their dominance over the Sussex Skylanders scoring three more times before the half ended with the score 4-0 CCRI. The Lady Knights opened the second half with some nice passing working their way around the field winning every ball that came near them. In the 16th minute of play CCRI began a flurry of offensive attacks scoring five more times making the final score 9-0.
The leading scorer on the day was Co-Captain Cait McGarry who scored three goals while adding four assists for an impressive 10-point day. Sophomore Co-Captain Brittany LeClair (Westerly, RI) also tallied three goals with one assist for seven points on the afternoon. Other goal scorers were: freshman midfielder Paige Oram (Burrillville, RI) who scored two goals and added an assist and freshman midfielder/forward Kassie Lussier (Warwick, RI) tallying her third goal of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) recorded her sixth shutout victory on the season.
CCRI Head Coach Dennis Grassini commented after the game, “Our team continues to work hard and the results show it. Playing back-to-back games on the road is no easy task and Coach Bannan and I are pleased with the success we had this weekend”.
