Newcomers help CCRI Golf raise record to 9-1!
The CCRI golf team traveled to Chicopee, MA to Chicopee Country Club on Saturday for a match versus Holyoke Community College, host school Springfield Technical Community College, and UMass-Stockbridge. The Knights shot a team total of 347 to defeat Holyoke and Springfield Tech 434 but were beat UMass-Stockbridge who shot a team total of 343. With the 2-1 match the Knights improve to 9-1 overall and 7-0- in Region XXI play.
Co-Captain Pat O'Connor (North Kingstown, RI) shot his Region XXI leading average of 77 while freshman Nick DeSalvo (Burrillville, RI) shot an 85. Rounding out the CCRI foursome was Gina Bartolotta (Wakefield, RI) shot an 86 and Nick Rocchio (East Greenwich, RI) shot a 98 to combine for a team total 347 which led the team to wins over Holyoke with a 394 and STCC at 434. However, they did suffer its first loss of the season to non-region U-Mass Stockbridge who shot a low team score of 343. In stepping up for Knights’ missing Co-Captain Anthony Lovechio (Wakefield, RI) and sophomore Greg North (Jamestown, RI) the newcomers: DeSalvo, Bartolotta, and Rocchio showed how deep this year’s team is. With the team average of 327 at Chicopee CC, the host of this year’s regional championships, the team couldn't be in better shape for a run at a place in the NJCAA National Championships.
