No. 11 ranked Lady Knights improve to 12-1!

The No. 11 ranked (NJCAA Division II poll) CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Pointers of the University of Connecticut at Avery Point (UCAP) for a Region XXI non-league game on Thursday night at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse.  The Lady Knights defeated UCAP 107-32.  With the victory the Lady Knights win their fifth in a row running their record to 12-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Region XXI play.
 
The Lady Knights came ready to play on Thursday and it showed.  CCRI jumped out to a quick 10 point lead a few minutes into the game and never looked back.  The Lady Knights took a 50-16 lead into halftime.  In the second half, played mostly by the CCRI reserves, the Lady Knights continued to play very well as the extended the lead and ultimately won by the score of 107-32.
The game also marked the ninth time in 13 games that the Lady Knights eclipsed the 100 point mark.  As a team the Lady Knights are at the top of the NJCAA in many statistical categories.  CCRI is leading the nation in point per game with 94 and 3-pointers made with 106 on the season.  The Lady Knights are ranked No. 2 in assist per game with 22.1, No. 6 in free throw percentage shooting at 72.3%.  They are also ranked No. 7 in steals with 17.8 per game, No. 7 in field goal percentage shooting at 46.1% and No. 13 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage shooting at 35.5%.
 
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Ahnyyah Jackson (Hackensack, NJ) who came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points, including two 3-pointers with three steals and two assists followed by Co-Captain Jess Randall (Warwick, RI) who scored 16 points with seven rebounds and four steals.  Also helping the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Brooklyn NY) with 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Lexi Barros (New Bedford, MA) had 13 points, including three 3-pointers and seven steals, and Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) had 10 points with eight rebounds.  Rounding out the CCRI attack was Moe Plummer (Fairfield, CT) with 11 points, including two 3-pointers with three assists, Lindsey Nash (Manchester, CT) with nine points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists, Treedy Ward (Boynton Beach, FL) with eight points, five rebounds and two assists while Jenna Ayala (Paterson, NJ) ripped down seven rebounds and had two blocked shots.  Jackie Riera led UCAP with10 points and five rebounds.
 
Lady Knights’ Head Coach Kate Lynch commented after the game: "We have been concentrating on two parts of our game that we need to improve on in order to be successful especially with our two games in Florida next week. I thought we did a great job with those two things. We got a lot of contributions off of our bench tonight (56 points). We shot well from the floor and executed well offensively."
 
The Lady Knights are off until December 28th when they will travel to Lake Worth, FL to play in the Palm Beach state Tournament versus top-flight Division I opponents.  On Friday the 28th they will face Northwest College from Powell, WY at 2:00pm and on Saturday the 29th they will face Louisiana State University-Eunice from Eunice, LA at 2:00pm.
