08.30.12: The No. 10 ranked (NJCAA pre-season poll) CCRI Lady Knights’ women’s soccer team travel to Brockton, MA yesterday to take on the Warriors from Massasoit Community College. The Lady Knights defeated the Warriors 9-0 in a lopsided Region XXI interdivision game. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Region XXI play.
The leading scorer for CCRI was freshman forward Paige Oram (Burrillville, RI) who recorded a hat trick (three goals) and added two assists on the day. Sophomore Co-Captain’s Cait McGarry (Warwick, RI) and Jessica McCaughey (Warwick, RI) each chipped in with a goal apiece while McGarry also added two assists. Freshman Midfielder Betti Worth (Bolton, England) scored twice. Freshman midfielder Jen Kittila (Warwick, RI) and Sophomore Jessica Sandin (Warwick, RI) rounded out the scoring on the afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) recorded the first shutout of her collegiate career.
CCRI’s next match will be their home opener this Sunday as they face off against a very good Monroe College (2-0) from New Rochelle, NY at 2:00pm at the CCRI soccer complex in Lincoln, RI.The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
