Lady Knights fall to Massasoit CC in DH

04.02.13

IzzyIzzy MarcAurele

The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA on Tuesday for a doubleheader.  The Lady Knights lost to the Warriors 4-2 and 6-4.  With the two losses the Lady Knights fall to 2-11 on the season.

Game 1
CCRI- 2 Massasoit CC- 4
Katie Paddock (Providence, RI) got the start for the Lady Knights throwing seven solid innings allowing four earned runs on six hits, striking out three and walking three.  Paddock got into trouble in the first inning as she allowed the first four batters to reach base and eventually score.  Katie was not pitching badly just a hot start by the Warriors.  After a tough first Paddock settled down to throw six innings of two-hit shutout ball.  Unfortunately, the Lady Knights’ offense fell silent on this cold and raw day and they could only muster two runs as the Lady Knights fell 4-2. Paddock did try and help her own cause with two hits in the games but it was not enough.

Offensively for the Lady Knights Co-Captain Izzy MarcAurele (Cranston, RI) had an RBI double in the seventh and Co-Captain Liz Coburn (Chepachet, RI) had an RBI double in the first inning and a run scored in the seventh.  Also helping the Lady Knights was Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) added a double and a run scored while Kyrie Craig (Warwick, RI) and Amber Boucher (Warwick, RI) had two hits apiece.

Game 2
CCRI- 4 Massasoit CC- 6
On the mound for the Lady Knights Macayla Paiva (West Greenwich, RI) got the start and got into a little trouble in the second where she gave up a run and then again in the third when she had trouble finding the strike zone and gave up four runs.  On the day she threw two and a third innings giving up five runs, four earned on six hits, striking out two and walking four batters to take the loss.  Katie Paddock relieved Paiva and gave up one run on one hits striking out two and walking one batter.  Paddock kept the game close, changing speeds and using both sides of the plate but the Lady Knights could not mount enough offense to comeback for the victory as they fell by the final score on 6-4.

Offensively for CCRI Sarah Deal (North Kingstown, RI) led the way going 3-3 with a double, two singles, and two RBIs and Izzy MarcAurele had two hits including a single, a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.  Also helping CCRI was Dara Patton (Cranston, RI) had a hit and RBI and a sacrifice and Amber Boucher (Warwick, RI) continued her hot-hitting with two more hits to go 4-5 on the day.  Rounding out the CCRI attack was Liz Coburn with a hit and a run scored and Brittany Smith (North Providence, RI), and Paddock had a hit apiece.

The Lady Knights’ next games will be Friday April 5th when they will host the Pride of Springfield College Junior Varsity for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30pm.
