03.30.13: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Selden, NY to play the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College. The Lady Knights lost 5-2 and 7-2. With the two losses the Lady Knights fall to 2-9 on the season.

Game 1

CCRI- 2 Suffolk- 5

On the mound for the Lady Knights was Katie Paddock (Providence, RI) who threw six strong innings allowing five runs, but only one was earned on seven hits, walking two and striking out two to take the hard-luck loss. Paddock did not get enough run support after only giving-up one earned run.

Offensively the Lady Knights could only muster five hits for the game which was not enough to secure the victory. Freshman Sara Deal (North Kingstown, RI) was the only Lady Knight with more than one hit providing all the CCRI punch with a single and a triple with an RBI and a run scored. Co-Captain Mel Iadeluca (Warwick, RI) added a hit, a stolen base, and a run scored and Alex Place (East Greenwich, RI) had a hit with an RBI. Rounding out the CCRI offense was Co-Captain Izzy MarcAurele (Cranston, RI) and Kate Fowler (Warwick, RI) with a hit apiece.

Suffolk got on the scoreboard in the first inning with a run, the Lady Knights answered in the second inning after a single by Sara Deal who later scored on an RBI single from Alex Place. Suffolk scored twice more in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead then Suffolk tacked on one more in the third and one more in the fourth to go up 5-1. The Lady Knights tried to mount a comeback as Mel Iadeluca led-off with a single and scored on an RBI triple from Deal but that is as close as they would get losing by the final score of 5-2.

Game 2

CCRI- 2 Suffolk- 7

On the mound for the Lady Knights Dara Patton (Cranston, RI) got the start and threw six innings allowing seven runs, only three of them earned on 10 hits, walking one and striking out four Sharks to take the loss. Patton was solid in her start but the Lady Knights couldn’t garner enough offense to get the win.

Once again the offense was led by Sara Deal with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base and Mel Iadeluca added a hit and RBI. Also helping the CCRI offense was Alex Place with a hit, stolen base and runs scored and Katie Paddock with a hit and run scored.

Suffolk got ton the scoreboard first again in the first to take a 1-0 lead then tacked-on four in the second with a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead. The Lady Knights tried to chip away at the lead and got a run in the third inning as Place got a single, advanced after stealing second and scored as Co-Captain Liz Coburn (Chepachet, RI) reached on an error. CCRI got on the board again in the fourth on three consecutive singles Paddock, Iadeluca and then Deal singled to score Paddock. But once again that was not enough as Suffolk added a couple more but CCRI would not score again falling by the final score of 7-2

The Lady Knights will be back in action Tuesday April 2nd when they will host the Warriors of Massasoit Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30pm
