The CCRI women’s soccer team hosted the Bees of Bristol Community College Saturday at the CCRI soccer complex in Lincoln.  The Lady Knights defeated the short-handed Bees 10-0.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Region XXI play.

The scoring started in the third minute of play when freshman midfielder Kayla Resendes (Cumberland, RI) scored on an assist from freshman Brittany LeClair (Westerly, RI).  Less than a minute later freshman midfielderJessica Sandin (Warwick, RI) scored on an assist from Resendes.  CCRI continued to dominate as Bristol barely had enough players to field a team.  By the half it was up to an 8-0 lead.  CCRI scored two more goals in the second half to round out the score at 10-0.

The leading scorer on the afternoon was Kayla Resendes who tallied four goals and two assists for 10 total points.  Brittany LeClair continued her scoring streak registering two goals and an assist. LeClair has scored in every game and now has four goals and four assists on the season for 12 total points.  Other goals were scored byJess McCaughey (Warwick, RI), Tri-Captain Lauren Saritelli (Coventry, RI), and Samantha Waterman(Westerly, RI).  Those registering assists on the day were: LeClair with one, Jessica Sandin with two, Caitlyn McGarry (Warwick, RI) with two, Jessika Lemos (Woonsocket, RI) with two, and Tri-Captain Haley Durkin(Cumberland, RI) added one).  CCRI utilized both of their goalkeepers: Taylor Maurath (Burrillville, RI) andKelsey Viens (North Attleboro, MA) each playing a half apiece.

Head Coach Dennis Grassini commented after the game; “It’s unfortunate that Bristol had such low numbers but our players work hard day in and day out and deserve to play when it’s game day.  We actually turned the match into a practice for our team so that we could work on specific plays and team shape out on the field”.

The Lady Knights next match will be Monday, September 12th as they travel to play Region XXI rival Dean College in Franklin, MA at 4:00pm.
