Three Knights Finish in Top 10 of NH Tech Invite!
Three members of the CCRI Knights men’s cross country team traveled to Concord, NH to compete in the New Hampshire Technical Institute Invitational. All three of them finished in the in the top 10.
Bobby Allen (Cranston, RI) led the Knights winning his third meet of the year running the 4.75 mile course in a 5 minute 11second mile pace for a final time of 24:36. Ben Marino (Warwick, RI) was just behind Allen placing fifth at a 5:43 per mile pace to finish in 27:09. However, the performance of the day was from Isaiah Hector (Warwick, RI) placing 10thout of the 64 man field in a time of 28:42, a 6:03 per mile pace which is 20 seconds per mile faster than any of his races this season. The weather was cloudy and around 50 degrees with no wind. The course was flat over grass and hard packed paths.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet “These three Knights should be commended for running great races. It’s coming down to the wire for this 2011 cross country season. It has been an interesting season because when I look at our six runners best races this is what I know: Bobby Allen has run 25:01 over 8k, Ben Marino has run a 27:47 over 8k, Isaiah Hector has run a 4.75 mile race in 28:42 which equals a 30:00 8k, Cole Maguire (Foster, RI) has run 30:30 on an 8k, Stefan Cox (West Kinston, RI) has run a 31:29 8k and Chris Mann (West Warwick, RI) has run 34:30 8k race. Their best team showing at the Tri-State Invitational when they finished tied for second place with a total team time of 2:22:35.00. My hope is that on November 5th at the National Championship meet in two weeks ever thing comes together as a team and all six guys run the way I know they can at the same event.”
The Knights look forward to competing at the 2011 NJCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships Saturday November 5th at 10:00am at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA.
